What Is the MCS-150?
The MCS-150, the Motor Carrier Identification Report, is the form FMCSA uses to keep your USDOT registration information current: fleet size, mileage, cargo type, and safety contact. Every carrier with an active USDOT number must resubmit it every 24 months, known as the biennial update, even if nothing about the business has changed.
Who Needs This
Every motor carrier, broker, and freight forwarder with an active USDOT number. FMCSA also requires an update outside the normal two-year cycle any time your business:
- Changes its legal name, address, or contact information
- Increases or decreases fleet size by a vehicle or driver
- Changes its type of operation or the cargo it carries
- Goes out of business, to deactivate the USDOT number
Your Due Date & What Happens If You Miss It
Your biennial update is due based on the second-to-last digit of your USDOT number, which sets the month, and whether that digit is odd or even, which sets the year. Miss the window and FMCSA can deactivate your USDOT number, which can stop you from operating legally and trigger fines. We track your due date and file before the deadline.
