Registering for a USDOT Number

Discover the Services Offered by DOT PROCESSING SERVICES

Starting a transportation business with commercial vehicles? If your operations involve crossing state lines and your vehicles weigh over 10,000 pounds, you're required by federal law to obtain a USDOT number through the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

More than half of U.S. states now enforce this federal requirement—even for intrastate carriers—so it’s critical to ensure your application is accurate, timely, and fully compliant.

Important Note:   Each company only needs one USDOT number, regardless of how many vehicles it operates.

Let experienced professionals handle your registration to avoid delays, errors, or penalties.

Who Needs a USDOT Number?

You must register if your company:

  • Operates commercial vehicles over 10,000 lbs. across state lines
  • Transports 8 or more passengers (including the driver) for compensation
  • Transports 15 or more passengers (including the driver) regardless of compensation
  • Carries hazardous materials requiring placarding under federal regulations
